This is me. Fed-up me. “Moaning whingeing whining, whining whingeing moaning, moaning whingeing whining snivelling Jock” me. Fed-up, currently, with church. Specifically church leaders. More specifically, our one-man-band current church leader. Morally upright, even uptight. Great bloke, not sleeping with the choir girls or the secretary (which is a good thing, because the secretary is a bloke, to boot!
Great teacher. Should be a Bible College lecturer. Shouldn’t be running a church – alone, anyway. Nobody should be doing that.
Unfortunately, nobody (in his congregation, anyway) seems to be meeting his criteria for spiritual leadership. Whatever his criteria are. As a result, we are seeing Bob Marley’s Exodus song being played out right in front of us. A lot of decent, very capable people ‘moving on’.
Have prayed, talked to him, tried to reason with him, quoted the story of Jethro and Moses on at least one occasion. Had meetings, sent emails. Even done the one thing guaranteed to lead to one’s demotion in Pentecostal denominations – offered myself as an elder. All to no avail. Any other ideas, anyone?
